Frequently Asked Questions

Dermal Fillers

Q: How do dermal fillers work?

A: As we age the layers of our face change; our bones recess and widen in areas such as the eyes, nose and mouth; our fat pads shrink and move with gravity, our muscles weaken and our ligaments stretch. This can lead to noticeable changes on the face such as hollowing around our eyes, creases around our mouth and chin and a loss of definition in the jaw line. This results in volume loss around the mid face. Dermal fillers work by replenishing your skin with hyaluronic acid to replace lost volume and smooth facial lineswhilst also restoring lost bone and fat pads.

Q: How long do the results last?

A: The ranges can last up to 12 – 15 months. When treating an area with a muscle that moves a lot, the filler can be broken down quicker

Q: How long does the treatment take?

A: Treatments can take up to one hour. This is to allow for a consultation and additional questions to be answered

Q: Is the treatment painful?

A: Most of the fillers integrate into your own tissues so minimal disruption of the tissue is experienced. You will be offered topical anaesthetic (cream). The products also contain lidocaine (anaesthetic) or are licensed to have anaesthetic added to them to help ease comfort of treatment

Q: Who will treat me?

A: Treatments are carried out by a registered nurse with prescribing qualifications

Wrinkle Reduction Treatment

Q: How does it work?

A: It relaxes the contraction of muscles by temporarily blocking nerve impulses, resulting in muscles that can no longer contract. When used in controlled doses it helps to soften facial expressions leaving you looking refreshed with a natural, youthful appearance

Q: When do the desired effects appear?

A: Desired effects appear 4 to 14 days post injection. It is important to be seen for a review at this time to ensure the treatment has been effective. All appointments will receive a follow up appointment

Q: How long does it last?

A: This varies from person to person but as a guide, injections should last 3 to 4 months. Having regular injections as soon as the muscles regain activity cause them to gradually shrink in size. This often results in treatment being required less frequently

Q: Who will treat me?

A: Treatments are carried out by a registered nurse with prescribing qualifications

A: Profhilo can be used anywhere on the face, the hands or the neck. Its clever science makes it the perfect treatment for the harder to treat areas

Q: How long does it take?

Q: How many treatments are recommended?

Q: Can you see the treatment after it has been done?

A: Yes, profhilo treatment leaves raised blebs on the skin. This is normal and indicates that the product has been placed in the right plane. It usually takes between 4 – 24 hours for these raised marks to settle

Skin Care

Q: What causes signs of ageing?

A: As the scaffolding in our skin weakens, fine lines and wrinkles appear, along with gradual sagging and volume loss. The main cause of ageing is collagen breakdown within our skin and is accompanied by the appearance of lines and wrinkles. You are likely to begin to see the first visible signs of ageing in your 30s, caused by the reduction of new skin cells being produced, thinning of the skin, a noted reduction in skin hydration and thickening of the outer layers of the skin. Skin may appear wrinkled, lined, dull and with uneven tone. Other skin imperfections such as rosacea, pigmentation, red veins and milia often become more pronounced.

Q: Can this be prevented?

A: Yes, protecting the skin from extrinsic factors such as pollution, smoking and harmful UV rays can help to slow down this process. The can be done by wearing medical graded skin care that contains Vitamin A, Vitamin C and E, peptides and SPF

Q: Can I make an appointment to discuss this?

A: Yes, all skin analysis consultation appointments are free at BB’s. An hour is set aside to discuss your concerns
